Queen of soul food. New Recipe. There's nothing quiet about the flavor. One of our customers once told me that the name Hush Puppies came from slave days. When the maid would be taking fresh biscuits or cornbread from the kitchen, which was always built away from the main house, the dogs would be running and jumping and trying to get a taste. You would say, Hush up little puppy, hush puppy. Well who wouldn't want to eat these flavorful, crunchy, fried cornmeal fritters? Try adding some chopped onion to the batter before shaping them into little balls.
