Set of two antique books (circa 1890s) entitled: WHITTIER'S POEMS Vol. I and Vol. II. John G. Whittier. Henry Altemus Publishing Company, Philadelphia, PA. Each volume is hardbound and show a bit of water damage/stains. Binding very good on both with the exception of Vol. II with some wear but pages are still intact. VOL. I has 264 pages plus note. VOL. II has 476 pages plus notes. An absolute must for the collector! NOTE ABOUT THE AUTHOR: John Greenleaf Whittier was an American Quaker poet and advocate of the abolition of slavery in the United States. Frequently listed as one of the fireside poets, he was influenced by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Whittier is remembered particularly for his anti-slavery writings, as well as his 1866 book Snow-Bound.
